Therapeutic Approaches Offered
Hearth Clinical Psychology only offers therapy that is driven by evidence-based interventions that our clinician has extensive experience and postgraduate training in. Beyond each modality, we prioritise the unique therapeutic relationship that is formed with every client as this is most predictive of progress. Care is always provided in an intentional, attuned, and reflective manner.
Cognitive Behaviour Therapy
Cognitive Behaviour Therapy is a structured and goal-oriented therapy that centers on the relationship between thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. It helps people to identify and modify unhelpful thought patterns to promote perspectives that are balanced and grounded in evidence to optimise functioning. CBT also incorporates behavioural strategies such as exposure tasks, activity scheduling, and structured problem solving. It is a pragmatic approach that emphasises skill building for depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and high stress environments.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy is a mindfulness-based therapy that enhances psychological flexibility. It facilitates acceptance rather than avoidance of difficult emotions, and the decentering of persistently unhelpful thoughts. ACT promotes non-judgmental, present moment awareness and flexible perspective taking on the ebbs and flow of life. It is about clarifying core values and considers the ways this can be reflected through action. ACT is a deeply compassionate and relatable approach, that dovetails well with other compassion and emotion focused interventions. It has a strong evidence base for grief & loss, trauma conditions and chronic health issues.
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy
DBT is a systematic approach that encourages people to balance the dialectic of acceptance and change. Individual sessions traditionally occur alongside group skills building sessions and phone coaching. DBT provides structured tools related to mindful emotional awareness, tolerance of distress during crises, interpersonal effectiveness, and effective regulation of emotions. The approach has been used for chronic emotion dysregulation, self-harm and addiction.
Motivational Interviewing
Motivational Interviewing is a person-centred and empowering intervention designed to enhance motivation to change behaviour. It explores the natural ambivalence many may feel and encourages reflection upon the importance of change. This includes in the context of addiction or health behaviour modification. It utilises active listening, summarisation and reflection to encourage inward clarity, guiding people to strive towards goals that align with their core values.
